Parametric
modeling in Monarch allows you to “group”
certain items together so that their relative
attributes (size, shape, location) never change
as the rest of the model changes. For example,
if you are designing a ring with three stones,
all spaced 3mm apart, you can resize the ring
without changing the size, shape, or spacing
of the gems. Even better, with Monarch you
can make these changes with zero distortion
to any of the ornamentation.
Parametric modeling also allows you to quickly
change the value of a certain attribute without
manipulating the model itself. Using the above
example, you can decide to space the gems
4mm simply by changing the number. The virtual
model will automatically update with any changes
you make in the parametric modeling design
view. Not only is this faster and more convenient,
but it gives you a mathematical precision
and balance that is not usually attainable
by hand modeling.
