3D jewelry CAD design opens up limitless possibilities – especially when you are using Monarch. Simply put, Monarch is the fastest and most advanced jewelry CAD software on the market today.
Easy enough to say, but here’s the proof:
Auto
Ring Stamp
With Monarch Fine Jewelry Design’s advanced CAD engine, things that should be “simple” using the computer really are! Watch how easy it is to engrave a name and add the karat stamp. Just type in what you want displayed, the depth and positioning, and Monarch does the rest for you automatically.
Bill of
Materials
Need a list of all the material specs including metals and gems included in your design? Simply click on “Bill of Materials” and Monarch automatically generates a full report that you can give you your clients or model maker.
Dome Tool
Creating precise domes is easy with Monarch. This demo shows how you can select the design element and easily set the height, continuity, and crown by inputting a value or using the slide bar. Best of all, any changes you make here are recorded in the exclusive Monarch History Tree functionality. If your client wants the doming a bit higher, for example, you can just jump in at this point, change the height, and save in literally seconds.
Gem Library
Here are just a few examples of the dozens of gems available for you to use. Unlike other jewelry CAD design programs though, each gem has its own History Tree functionality so that you can jump in and make changes to the width, height, cut, color – anything you like. As you create your new gem, Monarch automatically creates its own History Tree functionality too so that you can come back to it and make more changes as needed. The Gem Library is a great starting point to adding your own custom gems – and to help get the creative juices flowing!
Fancy Pierce Work
Creating elaborate pierce work can be an extremely time consuming task with other jewelry CAD design programs. In Monarch though, you can choose from a whole array of pre-designed patterns that you can easily size and adjust to your piece. Each design has its own History Tree functionality so you can change the patterns using pre-defined constraints (height, width, etc.) or do it totally “freehand.” Save your new pattern, and come back to it time and again.
Mill Grain Array
Tool
Monarch helps you automate repetitive tasks like creating a mill grain. Here, you see that you can choose the style, size, and gap width of your mill grain. You simply cannot add mill grains as easily in other jewelry CAD design programs.
Nothing finishes your design like a custom gem. With GemCad and Sarin, you can create your own gems and bring them right into Monarch. Even the most complex faceting is no problem – Monarch automatically brings in the gem specs and allows you to see the exact gem in 3D. No mockups or triangulation, and you can even adjust the stone type, color, and grade from within Monarch. What you see is what you get!
Why Is This Important?
The whole point of design CAD is to create designs on your
computer that are as close to the physical piece as
possible. This makes it easier to mill your design, and
more realistic when you show your customers your new
design. If you have a clunky
“representation” of a custom-cut gem
mounted on your ring, it will make the whole design look
clunky.
Creating and rendering your custom gems using GemCad and Sarin will help you create more realistic designs before you commit to manufacturing.
How Long Does It Take You Redesign a Ring Twice?
Monarch Can Do It Faster!
Here’s a typical scenario. You have a client who is looking for a custom ring, but isn’t quite sure about what he is looking for. So you start by showing him your library of ring designs to see what strikes him. You come across this ring, which he likes. It’s a size 7 with a three-stone trellis and six stones along each side.
But he wants to make some changes to the design. He needs two rings, size 5 and size 12. For the size 5 ring, he would like five stones along each side, and for the size 12 ring, seven stones.
Now using any other jewelry CAD program, you would have to basically build each ring from scratch. But not so with Monarch Fine Jewelry Design. With our exclusive built-in History Tree functionality, you can take the original size 7 ring and quickly make the changes to create both rings. Simply open your design, open the History Tree functionality, and start making changes.
First the shank. Jump to that point in the History Tree functionality and enter your new value. Monarch takes you through the rest of the ring so that you can adjust all the other elements in your design. Unlike other programs, the computer helps you at each step to ensure that you keep the integrity of your 3D design. This is vital since one small mistake and you will not be able to create a physical model from your design.
Once you have sized the ring and readjusted the elements, you can now change the number of stones. Add or remove stones easily keeping the exact gap size. Or change the gap size uniformly, and Monarch will automatically make the necessary adjustments.
Now unless you have used computer design programs before, it is hard to imagine the advantage that Monarch has over other programs. So let’s put it this way. To make the necessary changes, it took the designer in this demo about six and a half minutes to complete both rings (note the time stamp on each change). And all of that with zero distortion from the original design.
With other design programs, you would have to essentially build both rings from scratch, starting with a size 5 shank and a size 12 shank, and adding each element individually. This could take hours or days for each ring, taking up a lot of your time.
Simply put, if you are not using Monarch, it will take you longer to learn and longer to model.
Monarch: A Good Time for a Bad Mistake
Oh no! Another messy design! Guess I’ll have to file that one away with the rest of them…
Not so fast, Billy. With Monarch and its
exclusive built-in History Tree functionality, you can make
any change you like in minutes, all with zero
distortion!
Wrong ring size? Input the right one and let
Monarch help you reposition all other
elements in your design with zero distortion.
Not enough stones in the shank? Add a couple more –
Monarch automatically creates the right
pavé and gaps.
Too bulky a dome? Click in to that spot in the
History Tree functionality, use the slider
to thin out the design, and save without affecting any
other part of your design.
When you can make changes this quickly, no mistake is a bad mistake. Just one of the reasons why Monarch Fine Jewelry Design software should be your next design tool!
Before computer CAD, this was a scary question for a jeweler. When you created a custom ring, you started with the size and built the whole ring around that. Inlays, stonework, milling, trellises – there was no way to “resize” it without distorting all the intricate elements. The only answer was to start again and try to duplicate the ring with a different size shank.
Then computer CAD came along, and jewelers thought “great, now I can resize any design easily!” Makes sense, but the truth was that the best these programs could do was resize with minimal distortion. You would think that the computer could easily recalculate the design to account for a new ring size.
Actually it is possible, if you are using the right program. And Monarch Fine Jewelry Design software is that program.
With Monarch, you can change any part of your design quickly and easily. Simply jump in at any point of your design, make the changes to that element, and quickly update all the other elements. You end up with a design that has zero distortion from the original.
Here’s an example. A customer of yours likes a certain ring he saw in your virtual library, but he would like to make some changes. Okay, a lot of changes. Here’s his list:
With any other jewelry CAD program, you would have to rebuild from scratch. But not with Monarch. Watch this time-lapse video to see every one of these steps made successfully – all with zero distortion – in about 12 minutes.
The simple truth is – and we encourage you to try this yourself – if you are not using Monarch to design your jewelry, it will take longer to learn, longer to model, and longer to render your designs.
Inlay
Text or Pavé
As you can see in this demo, creating a pavé – even one with bright cuts – can be done instantly using Monarch Fine Jewelry software. Simply choose the face and its ajoining curves, set the pavé depth, and adjust angle of the cut. In literally seconds, you have made your pavé! Inlaying text and other designs are also quick and easy compared to other design CAD programs.
Material Attributes
Often, you want to specify the exact attributes for each piece of jewelry you design. Not only do these material attributes affect the look of your design, it can affect the strength of your piece, especially when it comes to prongs and similar elements that endure stress.
With Monarch, you can specify the exact attributes of all the materials in your design including metals and gems. You can also create a print-out to pass along to your manufacturer to ensure those specs are met.
Props
Library
Sure it’s great to be able to choose different backgrounds for your designs, but why not add some props as well to give a richer feel to your jewelry creations? Monarch offers a whole library of props that will give you photo-realistic renderings, depending on the rendering software you choose. The result will be just another facet to your backdrops – and more ways to show off your beautiful creations.
Scroll
Library
Scrolling is one of the most intricate design elements you can add to your piece, but it is also one of the most difficult things to achieve freehand. With Monarch’s Scroll Library, you can choose from a number of pre-designed scrolls.
Simply size them and add them directly to your design. You can even precisely adjust these designs as much – or as little – as you like.
Now you don’t have to be an expert carver to make intricate scroll designs like these!
Shank
Libraries
Monarch provides a number of different shank libraries that allow you to get a “head start” on your design. Best of all, every shank has its own History Tree functionality so that you can jump in and make changes to the design. You can even save it and start building your own library!
Starting with a trip to the shank library, you can make your own custom designer ring in literally minutes. This time-lapse demo shows how one designer went from shank to stunning ring in about 15 minutes.
Of course in real life, you will likely take longer to experiment with different stone placements, shanks, etc. But this demo shows you what is possible with the fast and powerful Monarch Fine Jewelry Design CAD software – once you’ve learned Monarch, you can make a ring in less than 15 minutes. This is simply not possible to this degree of intricacy with any other design program available on the market today.
With Monarch, you can create and edit unique cutters just as quickly as adding your stones. This demonstration shows how an experienced Monarch designer can edit the stone cutters shape in an array of gems in less than a minute. First, select one of the stone cuts, and then select “Step Thru History” to highlight all the cuts. Switch to sketch view (yes, the sketch is always connected to your 3D model), erase the previous cutter, and select a new one. Adjust the height if necessary, and then exit the sketch. With just a few more clicks, all the holes you selected are updated.
Although Monarch has a whole library of cutters, you can also create your own custom cutters. You can build your own shapes – even add your client’s name in stones around the inside of a ring shank!
Easy-to-Use Stone Setting Tools
As this video demonstrates, creating and placing stone arrangements is much easier with Monarch. In this example, we start with a basic ring shank and prepare a stone for setting.
First, we start with the gem itself. The Monarch Gem Stone Library comes with a whole array of gem shapes you can choose from. (You can even create your own custom gem shapes, if you like.) Once you’ve picked the shape, choose other characteristics like gem type, color, size, and even quality.
Then, move on to the setting itself. Choose from a variety of cutters and add your prong arrangement. Again, Monarch offers many choices for both that you can modify, or create your own custom size and shapes.
Once you have the arrangement assembled, you now have to attach it to your ring shank. Monarch makes this easy for you too. In sketch view, simply choose a point either “freehand” or let Monarch help you center it precisely. With one click, Monarch automatically attaches the complete stone setting at its precise point.
One important note here too: if you decide to change your shank size, you can do this quickly and easily with zero distortion to the gem setting. Similarly, you can always jump into the Monarch History Tree and change the setting’s prongs, gemstone, and cutter in mere seconds! That’s the power of Monarch, and that’s what sets our software apart from all the others.
With Monarch there is a tool and technique for all surfaces to have stones set on them.
Monarch Libraries allows you to pull a pre-built element off the shelf, customize it, and add it to your piece. Then save it for next time!
